About the Artist

Hi. My name is JoAnne Kenne, and I have been an artist of one sort or another all my life.

The only classes I ever got straight "A's" in during my school years was, of course, Art Class. It was the only place I felt I could be myself, the only thing that truly interested me.

I have tried my hand at everything from charcoals to oil paints, and pretty much everything in between, looking for just the right outlet for my creative side. In 2004 I finally found my niche - etching.

It all started with an idea for a computer case window. I went looking around online and found several sites devoted to computer case customizing, including windows. I saw a few decent, but somewhat rough, etched designs and thought to myself "I can do that!"  So I set out to try my hand at etching on plexiglass.

After a little experimentation on a scrap piece, the first real piece turned out pretty well (it can be seen in the Home & Gift gallery at the bottom of the page)

From there it was a simple matter of stepping up to glass & mirrors. The more I did, the more I wanted to do. Trying out different designs, on different materials. From the glassware and mirrors, I moved on to auto windows, of course trying it out on my own vehicle first before attempting anyone else's.

Then, after a discussion with an artist friend, I was encouraged to try etching metal - and the real experimentation began!

I can honestly say I surprised myself (and everyone else) with the metal work. It takes on a life of it's own when seen in the sunlight. It shimmers, glows, and "moves" - almost holographic. It really does need to be seen in person to truly understand and appreciate the beauty of this technique.

I look forward to creating something totally unique for you! Contact me soon so we can get started!
